World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – June 15th
The purpose of World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is to provide an opportunity for communities all over the world to promote a better understanding of elder abuse and neglect by raising awareness of the cultural, social, economic, and demographic processes that contribute to elder abuse and neglect.
Elder abuse occurs in many parts of the world with little recognition or response. Until recently, this serious social problem was largely hidden from public view and treated as a private matter. Even today, elder abuse remains a taboo, widely underestimated and ignored by societies worldwide. Although the extent of elder mistreatment is unknown, its social and moral implications are clear. As such, it necessitates a global multifaceted response focused on protecting the rights of the elderly.
