Press Release by the Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights: Five years of Social Work with Fondazzjoni Dar il-Hena

A joint effort between Government, Caritas and Alf Mizzi Foundation is reaping its fruit after five years of social work with Fondazzjoni Dar il-Hena. The Foundation runs three residential homes which serve as temporary shelters and assist persons who wish to reintegrate into society: Dar Papa Franġisku, Dar Maria Dolores and Reach Residence.

Michael Falzon, the Minister for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights visited Dar Papa Franġisku on the Foundation’s fifth anniversary of its work within the community.

His visit at  Dar Papa Franġisku took place at its busiest time, when people would go for the nourishing food the home provided daily. The Minister thanked the project’s administrators saying they  supported many people, he also thanked them for the work they carried out every day  with persons needing assistance. Minister Falzon also mentioned that Government allocated the sum of €835,000 to guarantee more social work through these residential homes.

Anthony Girard, the Chairman of the Board of Fondazzjoni Dar il-Hena expressed his satisfaction with how throughout these past five years, he was able to witness several success stories among persons who benefitted from this assistance.

He also said that a number of residents successfully completed the Reach Residential Programme, attained a Diploma from the University of Malta, purchased a new property or became permanently employed. “All this fills me with determination to continue with this joint effort which is bearing so much fruit” concluded Mr Anthony Girard.
