Reference Number: PR211318

The Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights has signed another funding agreement with Fondazzjoni Sebħ for the value of four million euro throughout a period of three years. This is one of the biggest social agreements of this ministry and it will finance further investment in the child sector.

The social agreement shall assure the funding of around 40 beds in children’s residential homes run by Fondazzjoni Sebħ. This foundation runs a number of children’s residential homes in Malta including Dar Fra Diego and Dar San Nikola in  Ħamrun, Sagra Familja in Żabbar and Dar Santa Tereża in Żurrieq.

The agreement was signed at the Dar Fra Diego children’s residential home in  Ħamrun. During his visit to the residential home, Minister Michael Falzon said that the Government is constantly investing in specialised services such as these because it believes that each child deserves a decent life filled with positive opportunities.

These residential homes welcome children who are under a State protection order and who cannot continue to live with their biological parents. “I am happy we have  residential homes like these, where these children can be given value, love and respect” said the Minister.

Homes such as these provide a safe environment and promote skills, emotional development and resilience while simultaneously maintaining continuous contact with these children’s families where possible.

“Without in any way detracting from the work carried out at these residential homes, I will continue to impress the importance that these children eventually join a family. There they will be able to experience the essence and love of the family and grow into adolescents and adults  with the same opportunities that everyone enjoys”, concluded Minister Falzon.
