11.05.2021 | Press Releases

Reference Number: PR210880

The Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights announced an agreement with Fondazzjoni Sebh  for funding of over one million euro over a period of three years. This Foundation runs a number of residential homes for vulnerable people including victims of domestic violence and children in alternative care.

Minster Michael Falzon praised the way the residential homes are run and mentioned the innovative services offered, assisting the residents in their journey  to reintegrate into society.

The Minister stated that Government and the Church are working closely for the benefit and  support of those most in need. In fact, the Ministry has ten agreements with entities related to the Church  which include children’s homes, shelters for persons who are victims of domestic violence and  others assisting vulnerable persons who are overcoming addiction. This Government grants funding of approximately 6 million euro to these Church entities including non-governmental organisations and other foundations.

This agreement helps women and children who have lived through domestic violence through an alternative residential programme, with the children also having probably experienced traumatic times due to the abuse.

This place shall also serve as a secondary shelter and as a semi-independent set-up so that these families can finally return to society and live a normal life like everybody.
