Statement by the Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights: A social agreement of €900,00 for the running of two residential homes for children and adolescents
Reference Number: PR210841
The Ministry for Social Justice and Solidarity, the Family and Children’s Rights renewed existing social agreements with a number of non-governmental organisations working within the community.
On Wednesday morning the Ministry announced that it will renew the social agreement it has with the Salesians of Don Bosco who run two residential homes which welcome adolescents and youths who do not reside with their biological persons.
These two residences: Osanna Pia and Dar Mamma Margherita host young men between the ages of 16 and 25 who for any reason are not supported by their families. This agreement shall make available the use of 19 beds.
Minister Michael Falzon said that this agreement shall be distributed over three years with funding which shall reach €900,000. He stated that the aim is to create a semi-independent living for these youths so that they don’t only have a roof but are also given their rightful dignity and the rights which each of us have.
The guidance and assistance given to these youths often leads to success stories where these youths achieve the building of their careers, positive relations and living an independent life.
Minister Falzon concluded that the Government shall continue to invest in these areas even if they do not affect many people. More importantly, this investment means an increase of over 25% more than the previous social agreement.
